The Etosha pan is undoubtedly, massive. It is the most distinctive feature of the park and can even be seen from space. It is believed that it was formed over 100 million years ago and is 130 km’s long and up to 50 km’s wide in certain places. This means that the pan covers almost a quarter of the entire park!
The Spitzkoppe mountain range’s granite is dated at more than 700 million years old. The mountain’s distinctive shape has earned it the nickname the Matterhorn of Namibia.
The Luna (Moon) Valley is named because of its lunar-like appearance. The sunsets seen from the valley are a real spectacle. At sunset, the hills begin to change colors, the sky goes from pink to purple to black, while the wind blows through the rocks.
The photogenic area of Soussesvlei is famous for its large, red sand dunes, which are some of the tallest sand dunes in the world and is one of Namibia’s most visited attractions. The word Sossusvlei originates from two languages, Nama and Afrikaans. It literally translates to “dead-end” (from the Nama word “Sossus”) “marsh” (from the Afrikaans word “Vlei”).
Luderitz is a quaint harbour town on the Atlantic Coast in Namibia. It boasts German history, art-deco architecture and excursions to the ghost town of Kolmanskop.
